Hand-knotted in wool, this 4x7 vintage rug originating from Turkey, circa 1960-1970, is a very special piece, featuring a light and refreshing mid-century classical design we believe to hail from multidisciplinary Turkish designer Zeki Müren.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate this vintage rug for its whimsical yet smart sensibilities, in the most exceptional color and a great size suited to wider spaces—as versatile for interior design as it is collectible for admirers of this provenance. Celadon blue and green tones underscore a multicolor geometric pattern in one of Zeki Müren’s more playful mid-century modern interpretations of an Art Deco sensibility. This Zeki Müren rug is particularly rare for its near full pile, and the playful sense of movement and life it lends compared to many other works of its period. It’s a light and playful piece with the whimsy of a Zeki Müren rug, but also with the comfortable and livable undertone that his works also embody, so thoughtful in their approach to the postmodernist appeal of the time and collectible in his works curated today.
Condition:
This vintage Turkish rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its pile height has been slightly lowered to preserve its construction, which lends it the subtle distressed look of wear and chic in a low pile.
