Made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Turkey circa 1960-1970, this 10x14 vintage rug is an exciting new piece in Rug
Kilim’s Mid-Century Pasha Collection—a rare curation believed to hail from mid-century Turkish artist and icon Zeki Müren.
On the Design:
This Zeki Müren rug features an irregular geometric design playing cubist Art Deco and mid-century modern sensibilities, which unfolds across a harmonious, soft palette of dusty rose pink, golden ochre, cream, and beige-brown tones, each ‘fragment’ contributing to an almost abstract mosaic that transforms historical design sections into modern artistic statements. The varied rectangular patches create dynamic visual rhythm through asymmetry and subtle tonal gradations. Larger neutral sections provide visual breathing space between more saturated elements, preventing chromatic overload while maintaining overall coherence. Admirers of the craft may note a subtle inspiration from patchwork rugs and Kilims in this design, as Müren was known as an eclectic designer famed for making many unusual styles his own.
