Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, this 2x5 vintage rug is an exciting new piece in Rug
Kilim’s Mid-Century Pasha Collection—a rare curation believed to hail from mid-century Turkish artist and icon Zeki Müren.
On The Design:
One of the many arts of this piece is the variety of colors and the smart way they’re used to lend such a playful sense of movement and modern mid-century flair to an otherwise soothing repeat of geometric patterns—a mark of finesse considered one of Müren’s many hallmarks. Admirers of the craft will further appreciate the way such uncommon colors for the period breath a modern sense of life into such traditional patterns like this play of cubist geometric patterns (though the deft hand behind such a fine repeat with so many color variations is ahead of its time as well).
Both this talent for making a classic his own and quality of work, too, speak to Müren as a student of his craft, and make his works as collectible to the connoisseur as they are inviting and whimsical to designers. Condition:
This vintage Turkish rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its pile height has been lowered to preserve its construction, which lends it the distressed look of wear and chic in a low pile.
