About the Item
Wool rug made by the De Poortere company in Belgium with dimensions 170 x 240. Murano model, with label.
The central field of the rug is decorated with a complex botè pattern (stylized curved almond-shaped drops), interwoven with flowers and leaves. The dominant colors are red, purple, blue, teal and accents of yellow and pink, creating a lively and harmonious visual effect.
Surrounding the central field is a richly decorated frame with symmetrical floral motifs, repeated with a precision reminiscent of Persian or Indian carpets.
In the Middle Ages, Flemish textiles were prized throughout Europe for their beauty and quality. Since 1859, the family business De Poortere Brothers was a manufacturer and trader of textiles, and it was here that Louis De Poortere gained his expertise.
In 1929, he founded his own company, bringing innovation, exploring new production techniques, and through his collections the company was able to offer a wide range of products.
