Handmade in wool circa 1920-1930, this 11x18 rug is a rare antique Arraiolos needlepoint from the titular region of Portugal.
On the Design:
Connoisseurs will admire this provenance, particularly famed for its craft honed through generations of needlewomen. This piece is among the few oversized rugs of its kind, and its design draws on a fabulous play of neoclassical and Arts
Crafts sensibilities. Its field enjoys an olive green undertone, punctuated by beige and brown in an all over floral pattern. Its chocolate brown and red borders host their own distinct floral patterns in brighter hues than the field’s repeat. This is an extremely collectible and equally beautiful turn-of-the-century piece of elegant sensibility, rare colors and versatile large size.
