This 7x10 antique Aubusson rug is an exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s European rug collection—a masterpiece of the French Neoclassical flatweave style, handwoven in wool and believed to originate from France circa 1910-1920.
On the Design:
Connoisseurs may appreciate this transitional rug among the works of a special workshop from its period. Designers and collectors will particularly note this rug’s masterful execution of symmetry, scale, and movement among its countless beauties—all exemplary of the French tapestry weave style, like few that remain of its kind today. The colorway is one of the most delicious elements here, where pink, blue, beige-brown, and green tones are favored in the large-scale floral medallion in the center. At each corner, a stylized bird, rendered in shades of grey and blue, adds a touch of whimsy and movement. These avian figures, with their elongated necks and gracefully curved wings, appear to be in mid-flight, their forms echoed in the scrolling tendrils that frame them.
