This pair of 4x8 antique Aubusson runner rugs are an exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s European rug collection—both masterpieces of the French Neoclassical flatweave style and twin pieces of the same size, each handwoven in wool and believed to originate from France circa 1910-1920.
Keen eyes for detail will particularly note these rugs’ masterful execution of symmetry, scale, and movement among their countless beauties—all exemplary of the French tapestry weave style, like few that remain of its kind today. Their colorway is one of the most delicious elements here, where blush pink and ice blue tones are favored in the medallion and floral patterns beside cream-white, gold and beige-brown tones. So too is the detailing, not just in the quintessential sense of impressionism of an Aubusson like those in the cartouches, but in the graceful subtlety of the field’s execution of muted florals.
