This elegant antique French Aubusson unfolds on a softly variegated beige ground shot through with the slightest abrash of pale taupe. At its heart is a restrained round medallion of acanthus scrolls and stylized rosettes, worked in warm chocolate-brown. Each corner mirrors this flourish with a quarter-medallion of curling leaves and blossom heads. The field itself is sparingly sprinkled with small flower-sprays and leaf clusters—each petal and lobe rendered in lighter or darker shades of beige to create subtle depth. A broad main border of linked cartouches frames the composition, its panels containing miniature floral bouquets and arabesque vine tracery in rich brown against a cream-beige ground. Inside and outside this, slender guard stripes feature delicate trailing vines and tiny rosettes in the same two-tone palette. The low, even hand-knotted wool pile carries a soft, matte finish and gentle variations in color that lend the rug a quietly aged, watercolor-washed patina.
