On the Design:
This rug is a beautifully preserved meditation on the Transitional style, where the flourish of classical European design is rendered with a quiet, modern look that makes it profoundly unique. The palette is particularly soft and harmonious, showcasing richer, deeper colors in muted rose, sage green, and pale blue, woven with sophisticated tonal blending to create an effect of aged fresco or velvet patina.
The entire field is a serene expanse of warm cream/beige, subtly enlivened by a scattered array of delicate floral sprays and individual blossoms that seem to drift across the surface. This open, airy approach is beautifully framed by a layered border system: an inner band with a classic Greek key motif, and a wider outer frame of elegant acanthus leaves and floral scrolls in a soft sage green.

This antique Savonnerie rug is in excellent foundational condition for a textile of its age, exhibiting soft color mellowing consistent with its history. This beautiful piece is currently undergoing expert restoration and conservation by our in-house master weaver and will be available upon completion of this process.
