Handwoven in wool circa 1880-1890, this 2x4 antique Swedish tapestry flatweave is from Rug Kilim’s new collection of classic Scandinavian tapestries and folk art. On the Design: Bright red tones underscores pictorials and geometric patterns in a play of chocolate brown, green and blue hues, with beige and white accents the keen eye will further note. The animals in the medallions seem to most closely resemble unicorns, as the detailing close to their ‘heads’ seems to depict horns atop the horse-like body—a rare design in a rich piece of folk art. Admirers of the craft will appreciate this as an extremely collectible piece of design history as much as a handmade treasure, teeming with rustic, old-world charm and rich beauty of Swedish folk art.
