About the Item

This antique French Aubusson rug features a moss-green field surrounded by an octagonal ivory stripe with an ivory inward hanging tassel and scattered with pistachio-green flowerheads around a central ivory roundel containing a large rosette issuing delicate burgundy-purple crocuses and light blue flowering plants, in a broad chocolate-brown border with a band of polychrome flowers and leaf motifs with a golden tie-band at each corner surrounded by an outer olive-green stripe with a pistachio-green laurel-leaf vine linking rosettes between apricot plain stripes, a chocolate-brown triangle in each corner with a leaf garland and a floating ribbon, outer pistachio-green and laurel-leaf vine between plain apricot stripes. French Aubusson rugs are elegant, handwoven tapestries that originated in the town of Aubusson, France. Known for their delicate floral patterns, pastel colors, and intricate scrollwork, these rugs were originally made for French aristocracy. They often feature central medallions, ornate borders, and a soft, flat-woven texture. Aubusson rugs embody classic European sophistication and remain highly valued for their artistry and historical significance.
