A superb and authentic example of an antique Turkmen Tekke tribe rug, expertly hand-knotted from high-quality wool in the 1920s. The Tekke are one of the most prominent groups of the Turkmen people, renowned for producing some of the finest and most tightly woven antique tribal rugs.
This piece is characterized by its signature repeating design: rows of large, geometric medallions known as guls. In this Tekke rug, the guls—which are distinctive to the tribe—are typically octagonal or quartered, rendered in shades of deep red, brick, and warm orange, and accented with details in ivory and dark blue. The powerful, continuous pattern is set against a vibrant, saturated red ground, contained by multiple, narrow borders (minor guard borders) that frame the main design field.
Measuring $132 \text{ cm} \times 182 \text{ cm}$ ($4 \text{ ft} 4 \text{ in} \times 6 \text{ ft} 0 \text{ in}$), this is a classic area rug size, perfect for adding saturated color and tribal character beneath a small seating arrangement, or as a striking wall hanging.
