About the Item
Inspired by Andrée Putman, a French design icon, this collectible textile piece pays tribute to her bold and visionary approach to interiors. Putman once said: “Sometimes, courage is needed to make a decision which could shock some, but which turns out to be the right one.”
Taking inspiration from Putman’s iconic carpet design for the Morgans Hotel in New York, artist Mariadela Araujo reinterprets her rebellious spirit and passion for creating accessible, beautifully imperfect design. Crafted on a high-warp loom, this piece challenges tradition by incorporating unexpected volumes and textures, resulting in a work that emphasizes eccentric minimalism and the luxury of imperfection.
Mariadela Araujo is a Venezuelan–Spanish textile artist, designer, and educator based in Barcelona. Her practice bridges art, design, and craftsmanship, exploring weaving, embroidery, and other textile techniques to create artworks, functional objects, and installations infused with vibrant color and tactile richness.
Recognized by AD Spain as one of the top Spanish designers, Araujo has worked with prestigious clients such as Loewe, Saatchi Art, EÈRA, and WeWork. Her work spans from large-scale textile installations for public spaces to collectible design pieces for private collections. She has exhibited internationally in Brussels, Paris, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Mallorca, Caracas, and Yerevan, gaining recognition in the worlds of contemporary art and luxury design.
