Hand knotted in a lustrous, healthy wool from England circa 1900-1920, our principal remarks this piece was likely commissioned for the inside market—supported by the regal element and uncommon large size lending to its collectible rarity in kind to its beauty. Within a beige-brown border with matching all over floral motifs there’s an exceptional play of rich red and subtle pink, highlighting a very Art Nouveau and even a veritable Arts
Crafts intention to the field design, while the meandering borders exemplify traditional Oriental principles.
Connoisseurs may further note a variety of finely detailed rosettes, guls, palmettes, cross motifs, ziz-zag borders, and cabbage roses among the variety of European and Oriental motifs of noteworthy finesse.
