About the Item

An authentic Antique Baluch Prayer Rug (Namazlyk) originating from Central Asia, circa 1900. This highly collectible piece showcases the exquisite detail and deep, rich color palette characteristic of nomadic Baluch weaving. The design is centered on a defined Mihrab (prayer niche), framed by a delicate spandrel panel featuring classic tribal motifs and stylized architecture. The field is meticulously detailed with geometric and talismanic patterns, including a striking use of repeating geometric figures, symbolizing protection and continuity. Woven from fine hand-spun wool with a naturally dyed palette, the rug’s colors are intense yet softened by time. It features a dominant foundation of deep browns and burgundy reds, accented by striking terracotta orange, navy blue, and subtle ivory. The combination of its smaller size (perfect for an accent mat or wall hanging) and its deep, saturated colors makes it an exceptional addition to any collection. The rug is presented in original antique condition with some signs of age-appropriate wear, including a low pile and subtle color variation, which contributes to its unique character and desirable patina. 3.
