A rare and highly collectible antique Jaf tribal bagface, hand-knotted from soft, undyed wool in the Kurdish Weaving Region circa the 1890s. Bagfaces are prized by collectors for their pure, unfiltered nomadic artistry and vibrant, highly symbolic geometric patterns, as they were originally woven purely for personal tribal use, not for commercial export.
This small textile features an engaging design centered on a rich, crimson field containing abstract tribal medallions in deep navy and blue. The composition is framed by an unusually wide, vibrant border featuring a repeated sequence of brightly colored geometric diamonds in orange, teal, ivory, and brown, demonstrating a sophisticated color palette achieved with natural vegetable dyes.
This complete bagface, with its intricate details and fine knotting, is a genuine artifact of the late 19th century.
