About the Item

This striking, hand-knotted vintage runner is crafted in the distinctive style of Bukhara (Bokhara), a pattern often associated with the weaving traditions of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Dating from the 1960s, this piece features the iconic, highly repetitive gul motif. While the design is structurally similar to Tekke or Yomut work, the specific execution and bold color scheme—particularly the rich, saturated red field—are hallmarks of the commercial style popularized as "Bukhara." The runner features a central spine of deep red, octagonal-shaped medallions (guls), each containing a complex geometric core. This central pattern is flanked by striking black/dark-brown guard borders filled with intricate, repeating geometric lattice work and small floral details, creating a beautiful contrast in density and color. The long, narrow format (runner) is ideal for high-traffic hallways, entryways, or as a vibrant accent piece in a living space. Made from durable wool, it maintains a good, firm pile and offers a soft feel underfoot. It is in good vintage condition, exhibiting the natural patina and minor character of a well-preserved mid-century textile.
