Shyrdak, created by Dinodo Studio in collaboration with Firouz FarmanFarmaian, is a standout piece from the Contemporary Nomads collection—a limited-edition series that reimagines traditional craft through modern artistry. This collection celebrates the rich cultural heritage of nomadic communities while pushing the boundaries of textile design into the realm of contemporary art.
Handcrafted using the traditional shyrdak technique, this rug is made from felt wool and features a striking palette of brown, red, and white. The intricate patterns and bold contrasts reflect the deep symbolism of Kyrgyz nomadic culture, transforming the rug into a vibrant narrative of heritage and identity.
Available in two standard sizes—9.8 x 6.6 ft (300 x 200 cm) and 7.9 x 5.6 ft (240 x 170 cm)—Shyrdak balances artistry and functionality, making it suitable for diverse interior spaces. Limited to an edition of 5, each rug is signed and numbered on the back and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Part of FarmanFarmaian’s shyrdak series, this piece builds upon the artist's experience as the cultural ambassador for the Kyrgyz National Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale. Inspired by his year living among Kyrgyz tribal craftswomen in the Tien Shan Range and his textile-based installation Gates of Turan, Shyrdak continues the artist's mission to preserve and reinterpret the legacy of Kyrgyz nomadic craftsmanship. Through this collaboration, Dinodo Studio and FarmanFarmaian present a bold synthesis of tradition and modernity, paying homage to the timeless artistry of nomadic cultures.
