This collection reinterprets traditional artistry, showcasing the timeless narratives of tribal cultures through contemporary forms.
Hand-knotted using super-fine wool, World as Tent features a refined palette of navy and white, evoking a sense of serenity and depth. The rug’s intricate patterns are inspired by ceremonial Amazigh tattoo artistry, blending elements of tribal semiology with sacred archaic cosmogonies. FarmanFarmaian's design transforms ancient symbolism into a meditative artwork, exploring connections between Iran, North Africa, and Central Asia while evoking themes of memory, identity, and spirituality.
Available in two standard sizes - 9.8 x 6.6 ft (300 x 200 cm) and 7.9 x 5.6 ft (240 x 170 cm) - World as Tent is both a functional textile and a contemplative art piece. Limited to an edition of 5, each rug is signed and numbered on the back and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Part of FarmanFarmaian’s ongoing exploration of postribal aesthetics, this rug reimagines the sacred and symbolic traditions of Amazigh and other nomadic cultures.
