About the Item

This 14x21 antique Aubusson rug is an exciting new addition to Rug Kilim’s European rug collection—a masterpiece of the French Neoclassical flatweave style, handwoven in wool and believed to originate from France circa 1910-1920. On the Design: Admirers of the craft may appreciate this transitional rug among the works of a special workshop among early 20th-century reimaginings of the Aubusson design sensibility, as well as a uniquely pastoral, French Country piece found in this weaving tradition. Keen eyes for detail will particularly note this rug’s masterful execution of symmetry, scale, and movement among its countless beauties—all exemplary of the French tapestry weave style, like few that remain of its kind today. The colorway is one of the most delicious elements here, where a light mint tone is favored in the field. Further, an atypical central medallion surrounded by floral patterns and cartouches flourish in sky blue, gold, red, and green tones. Altogether it’s a piece as deeply personal in its subtext as it is in the details and beauties that distinguish it in our craft—both a masterpiece and a true collector’s rug, teeming with history and culture. Boasting a particularly versatile large size with vast applications in interior design today. Condition: This antique Aubusson rug is in good condition for its age and origin, following minor restoration by our in-house master weavers.
