About the Item
Important unique circular wool rug with concentric decoration of red and black geometric friezes formed by pictograms as well as yellow and grey aztec ideograms on a cream background designed by Alfred Porteneuve and Sallandrouze Frères (Aubusson).
Monogrammed “JH” and dated “1936”. Unique piece.
Alfred Porteneuve (1896-1949) was a French interior designer and furniture maker of the Art Deco period, having worked under the so-called godfather of Art Deco, Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann. Porteneuve later started his own furniture house, where he designed and created his own pieces with luxurious materials and expert craftsmanship.
