Handwoven in wool circa 1950-1960, this 5x7 vintage French tapestry is believed to be from the rare abstract textiles of Etienne Porier—an exciting new curation from our European Collection.
On The Design:
Keen eyes will note the signature and title from Poirier that reads “Cannes Au Crepuscule”—which translates to “Cannes at Twilight.” The work looks to be inspired by the titular French city at night, recaptured in this artist’s renowned impressionist style with bold figures in dreamy watercolor hues of blue, pink and yellow. It’s a masterpiece in modernist textile design, and extremely collectible for connoisseurs of mid-century modern art.
