About the Item
Big size modernist rug by René Fumeron in wool. This graphic floor piece carries elegant shades of grey, green and brown colors. In good vintage condition.
A former student of René Gabriel at the School of Applied Arts in Industry
the School of Fine Arts in Paris, Fumeron exhibited from the 1940s. He first devoted himself to wall decoration, wallpapers , fabrics and posters. He worked with the Nobilis, as well as with Dumas, Frey and Chanée. He created many tapestry sketches from 1949. In this last field, he collaborated with the Tapestries of France cooperative and received orders from the State. Thus Aubusson and the Gobelins commissioned tapestries from Fumeron. Moreover, Fumeron presented tapestries during the Salons of Decorative Artists. These were woven in Aubusson in 1956 and at Pinton in 1959.
