About the Item

This 220 x 120 cm tapestry, designed by Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi, is a fascinating work that reflects the artist's experience during his stay in Brazil between 1923 and 1925. Made entirely by hand from pure wool yarn and cotton weft (woven wool and cotton - kilim), the tapestry depicts a vibrant tropical village, a theme dear to the artist and his decorative output of the period. The scene depicts typical rectangular houses harmoniously arranged in the landscape. Animal figures, including llamas, symbols of local wildlife, stand out among the buildings. The sky, a key element of the composition, is enlivened by a large radiant sun that illuminates the scene. On the right, however, midnight blue envelops part of the landscape, dotted with a multitude of tiny twinkling stars, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the tapestry. This work, part of a group of large decorative art tapestries, skillfully combines naturalistic details with a unique decorative style, showing the technical skill and artistic originality of Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi. The last photo shows a restoration done by experienced restorers. The work was not done recently, but it was done competently and with respect for the work. Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi (Rome,1901 - Verona, 1945) before his Futurist period was highly regarded as a figurative painter. In the Veronese archives of the heirs, there are lists of the works he created since 1915, and also many records of his stay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he spent three years, from 1923 to 1925, as an esteemed portrait painter so much so that in 1924 he made a portrait of H.E. Arthur Bernardes who was the president of Brazil. But in Brazil he also worked on applied art, making various wool tapestries that stared at villages he encountered during his travels in the 'jungle,' the tropical rainforest. With authentication.
