About the Item
Handwoven in wool and originating from France circa 1970-1980, this 3×6 vintage tapestry is a signed collectible from the Aubusson works of French weaver Jean-Michel Lartigaud “The Birds”.
On the Design:
This Lartigaud original is exemplary of the artist’s deep understanding of modernist abstraction while honoring traditional weaving techniques. The composition achieves dynamism through its sweeping, calligraphic gestures suggesting birds in flight, rendered in a sophisticated palette of neutrals punctuated by strategic touches of coral red, ice blue, cream and peach. Vertical striations in soft beige, sky blue and mint green create spatial depth, while a central cream-colored void anchors the composition.
