This is a bold, graphic, personal vintage work; a piece of weaving history most likely from a special workshop with a deep reverence for the charm of tribal kilims—this being one of the most unique we’ve seen among mid-20th-century Scandinavian rugs. This piece enjoys geometric medallions in tones of beige, red, brown, green, blue and ivory that evoke a gorgeous shabby-chic retro vibe. The design is vivid and complex for works of this technique, though still exemplary of Swedish flatweaves in their impressionistic, country-chic beauty—from a tradition among the earliest works of rustic Scandinavian rugs in our collection.
