About the Item

Exceptional 1940s Tubular Steel Lounge Chairs with Streamline Moderne Influence – Original Set from a German Aircraft Components Manufacturer This rare set of three tubular steel lounge chairs combines the functional clarity of German Modernism with the fluid, aerodynamic language of early American Streamline Moderne. Designed in the 1940s and manufactured by a small furniture workshop in Nuremberg, the ensemble reflects the progressive spirit of the early post-war era, when Bauhaus principles of reduction and purposefulness continued to shape European design. The chrome-plated tubular steel frames form elegantly curved silhouettes reminiscent of the modernist aesthetic celebrated in Billy Wilder’s 1961 film One, Two, Three, whose set decorations embraced the same spirited fusion of industrial precision and mid-century optimism. The chairs retain their original green faux-leather upholstery and black Bakelite armrests, underscoring their authentic period character. This group originates from the reception hall of a German manufacturer specializing in aircraft components, where the pieces remained in remarkably well-preserved original condition. A matching looped-leg table and a small stool from the same provenance are also available. A highly authentic and visually striking example of mid-century European metal furniture design, uniting Bauhaus-inspired functionalism with the dynamic elegance of the Streamline era.
