About the Item
Armchairs, leather, oak, metal, Spain, 1950s
Raw, sculptural, and honest, these armchairs originate from Spain and showcases superb craftsmanship. The back and seat are made from woven, basket-like cognac leather straps, beautifully patinated through age and use, and drawing from traditional craft and saddle-making techniques. The leather straps are fastened with metal spiral studs, an honest and visible expression of construction and material integrity. The sculpted oak frame features softly contoured armrests, while the base is composed of splayed legs. This approach to form and material is very much rooted in Spain of the 1950s and 1960s, where regional craft practices informed a distinctly raw modern aesthetic.
