About the Item
19th century gothic revival painted dug out chair circa 1890.
Unusual profusely hand carved Swedish tub chair, created by using a tree trunk and carving it into a seat.
Shaped arms with floral and acanthus leaf decoration, which is carried on around the front base. Grotesque face to reverse with a further decoration of acanthus leaves. Back rest with a humourous carving of a main at the dentist in the process of having some uncomfortable extraction.
Minor surface marks to woodwork. Later painted in a flesh coloured paint.
Fantastic talking point for the hallway.
