About the Item

Bench-made 19th-century Irish Chippendale armchair. A mahogany swan‑back armchair with delicately carved floral crests, the shaped, conforming splat featuring refined carved recessed, setback, finger‑carved scrolled knuckle arms with gracefully curved supports lead to a serpentine front. A beautiful seat fitted with a wool crewelwork slip seat depicting two deer beneath a fruit tree is a work of art on its own. The robust frame and front cabriole legs display a beaded edge, acanthus‑leaf carved knees and padded feet. The back legs are elegantly shaped and connected by a turned urn-and-block side stretcher and a sinuous center stretcher. Size: 24” W x 19” D x 45” H (seat height” 18”) C. 1830, Ireland
