About the Item

19th Century Italian Renaissance Revival Walnut Swiveling Desk Chair is more artistic sculpture than mere furniture! Hand-carved from solid walnut, it features a circular seat that swivels 360 degrees without raising or lowering. The seat is also carved with bas relief rosette and foliate bordering. The seatback and armrests, however, are immediately captivating, with smiling maidens providing support to the armrests that wrap around in an ox yoke form culminating in a pair of winged cherubs at the crest floating in billowing clouds. The center stanchion is heart-shaped and carved in a naturalistic form. A boldly scrolled apron is carved all around and supported by four sturdy hand-carved legs connected by turned stretchers, ending in scrolled feet carved with acanthus plumes. The combination of form and function is truly incredible to behold! Circa 1870s Measures 34.5H x 24.5W x 24.5D Available for pickup in the Dallas Design District, Dallas, Texas

The remainder of the seatback follows tailored lines accented with scrolls for a tailored opulence. The seat itself is beautifully contoured and upholstered in mohair, and features gracefully scrolled legs, with the front legs molded for added visual appeal while retaining an austerity of form that is the essence of understated elegance.
