This lounge chair, designed by Angel Pazmino and produced by Muebles De Estilo in Ecuador during the 1960s, represents one of the most distinctive expressions of mid-century South American craftsmanship.
Constructed with a solid hardwood frame and fitted with Pazmino’s signature hand-tooled leather, the chair exemplifies the designer’s unique fusion of pre-Columbian visual language and modernist structural clarity. The sculptural form is built using interlocking wooden joints and wooden pegs, a construction method characteristic of Pazmino’s work with the Quito-based workshop Muebles De Estilo.
The leather seat and backrest show deeply impressed geometric and figurative motifs—hallmarks of Pazmino’s collaboration with local artisans—adding both texture and cultural depth to the piece. The ergonomic angle of the seat, the broad armrests, and the wide stance give the chair a grounded yet architectural presence.
This example remains in very good vintage condition, with well-preserved leather surfaces and a beautifully aged timber frame.
