A lounge chair and ottoman designed by Ángel Pazmiño and produced by Muebles De Estilo, Ecuador, circa 1960s.
This early example showcases Pazmiño’s distinctive approach, combining hand-tooled leather panels with a solid wood frame constructed through exposed joinery and robust wooden pegs. The set reflects the designer’s synthesis of mid-20th-century modernism with traditional Andean craftsmanship.
The surfaces of the leather are deeply embossed with geometric and figurative motifs typical of Pazmiño’s work, retaining excellent definition and texture. Both the chair and ottoman display well-preserved upholstery, with minimal signs of age and a strong structural presence. The wood presents a warm, even tone with subtle wear consistent with careful use.
Pazmiño’s furniture has become increasingly sought-after for its sculptural quality, material integrity, and cultural significance within Latin American design history.
