About the Item

This elegant French arm chair captures the refined curves and carved detailing of the Régence period, blending the boldness of Louis XIV with the emerging grace of Louis XV. Likely dating to the early 19th century, the chair features a generously proportioned frame carved from solid mahogany with a deeply sculpted serpentine seat rail, cabriole legs, and scrolling arms. Stylized acanthus leaves and shell motifs adorn the knees and crests, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship characteristic of fine Parisian furniture in the neoclassical revival periods. The upholstery is done in a neutral diamond-patterned fabric with subtle golden accents and is trimmed in a brass nailhead border for a crisp tailored finish. The seat is quite comfortable, and the back rises in a gently arched silhouette, lending it a stately yet inviting presence. The cross-stretcher base not only enhances stability but also adds a lovely fluidity to the silhouette, making this piece a fine example of form meeting function. In nice antique condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, including some light wear to the fabric and a few small scuffs to the finish. A wonderful addition to a refined study, sitting room, or bedroom corner—equally suited to standalone display or as a companion piece to a larger French suite. 47h x 25w x 25d seat height 21
