This is an antique turner’s chair. An English, oak Old Saxon elbow seat, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. A fascinating example in the John Starkey Warwick style, offering superb form, characterful stocks and sculptural appeal. Select oak stocks present fine grain interest with deep caramel hues Distinctive in the manner of the ‘Old Saxon’ chair, rich with historical influence Displays a desirable aged patina and remains in good order throughout Superb triangular motif to the form, crafted from impressively thick stocks Striking geometric engravings adorn the back rest, with cupped carvings to the edge Bobbin turned arms meeting robust supports of approximately 2.75" diameter Standing upon substantial turned legs, united with rolled stretcher rails Front rails arranged in a pair, adding further stability and decorative interest This is a striking and unusual turner’s chair with excellent period presence, ideal for collectors of Victorian revival furniture or distinctive interior settings.
