About the Item

in very good condition, recently covered with a nubuck type fabric ARP Armchair (Atelier de Recherche Plastique), association of Pierre Guariche, Joseph-André Motte and Michel Mortier, circa 1950. model 641 (designed in 1955), in perfect condition, covered with a pearl gray Alcantara fabric, Edition Steiner The ARP (Plastic Research Workshop) founded in 1954 by Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte is the meeting of three friends and young designers. The three designers, when the group was founded, wanted to shake up the codes of classicism by designing new shapes in order to create more accessible furniture. Major pieces of the 20th century are the result of this new and fruitful association. We think in particular of the series of storage units for the publisher Minvielle or even of the armchairs for Steiner. Joseph-André Motte and Michel Mortier both have a background in Applied Arts, while Pierre Guariche is a graduate in Decorative Arts. All three met while working in the agency of designer Marcel Gascoin. In 1954, they participated in the Salon des Arts Ménagers and realized that they had the common desire to found an association, in particular with the aim of creating a series of furniture desired by the publisher Charles Minvielle. The three designers received numerous prizes at the end of the competition organized by the Center technique du bois. The principle was to design practical furniture that easily finds its place in small areas. The Plastic Research Workshop will end in 1957.
