About the Item

Sculptural Art Deco lounge chairs by Jindřich Halabala, featuring elegant bentwood armrests and original upholstery; a collectible Czech design classic with reupholstery recommended. This refined pair of Art Deco lounge chairs was designed by Jindřich Halabala and produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1940s. Halabala is internationally recognized as one of the most influential Czech furniture designers of the 20th century, known for his sculptural use of bentwood, functional elegance, and timeless proportions. The chairs are defined by their beautifully curved solid wood armrests, which flow organically from the backrest to the front, creating a strong yet elegant silhouette. The slightly reclined backs and generously proportioned seats provide both visual balance and comfortable seating, making these chairs suitable for living rooms, lounges, libraries, or refined hospitality interiors. The chairs retain their original upholstery in various woven fabrics and tones. The upholstery shows visible age-related wear and patina consistent with vintage use, contributing to their authentic character. Reupholstery is recommended for clients seeking a pristine or customized finish; the chairs are structurally well suited for reupholstering in a wide range of fabrics. The wooden frames and armrests are in very good vintage condition, displaying a warm patina that highlights the quality of the bentwood craftsmanship. Price is per set of one pair (two lounge chairs). More than 12 sets are available, each featuring different original upholstery colors and natural variations, making every set unique while maintaining consistent design and proportions. Thanks to their sculptural form and compact scale, these Halabala lounge chairs integrate seamlessly into both classic Art Deco interiors and contemporary mid-century modern settings. A timeless and collectible example of Central European modernist design.
