About the Item

One of the masterpieces designed by Danish master Børge Mogensen. This is a vintage Spanish Chair Model 2226, manufactured by the existing Fredericia company. It is a globally acclaimed masterpiece, counted among the finest pieces. The design was inspired by chairs from regions influenced by traditional Islamic culture, which Mogensen encountered during his travels in Spain. It was reconstructed into a modern design prioritising functionality over ornamentation. Presented at an exhibition in Copenhagen in 1958, it was initially displayed as part of an innovative living space themed around a hunting lodge. To create an open space eliminating the need for a side table, it features wide armrests. Details include a sturdy solid oak frame combined with premium saddle leather. The wide armrests can also serve as a side table for drinks or books. A key appeal is how the leather moulds to the body's shape and deepens in colour and sheen with use, evolving into a uniquely comfortable seat for its owner over time. Although manufactured as a reproduction, this vintage piece, with its distinct detailing, continues to increase in value year after year.
