About the Item

This elegant armchair reflects the distinctive modernist language of Giuseppe Scapinelli, characterized by sculptural lines, refined proportions, and exceptional craftsmanship. The design features a gently reclined back, fluidly curved wooden arms, and tapered legs, creating a composition that is both visually light and ergonomically considered. The hardwood frame remains in very good condition, highlighting Scapinelli’s refined joinery and attention to detail. The chair is currently upholstered in its original vintage fabric, which has been intentionally preserved. While showing natural age consistent with period upholstery, it offers an exceptional opportunity for future customization and reupholstery to suit a specific interior. About the designer: Giuseppe Scapinelli (1911–1987) was an Italian-born designer who settled in Brazil in the postwar period and became one of the most distinctive voices in Brazilian mid-century modern design. Known for his sculptural approach to furniture, Scapinelli combined European modernist principles with Brazilian materials and craftsmanship. His work is characterized by fluid lines, refined proportions, and an emphasis on comfort, resulting in pieces that feel both architectural and sensual. Today, his designs are highly sought after by collectors for their elegance, originality, and enduring relevance. A sophisticated example of Brazilian mid-century modern seating—at once architectural, comfortable, and timeless.
