About the Item
We have a pair of chairs with armrests made in solid wood by Cantù Móveis e Interiores Ltda, in the 1960s, Brasil.
Architects Jorge Jabour Mauad and Osires Cunha Meale were responsible for designing the furniture of Cantù Móveis. In the Brazilian market at the time Cantù played a role as an industrial furniture producer whilst also offering customised pieces for homes or offices, selling from their own stores in Copacabana and Niterói.
Their work is known for refined design, good quality of materials and great craftsmanship. So much so that their pieces are often attributed to the genius Joaquim Tenreiro.
This piece has a well balanced and elegant design. The seat seems to float from the wooden structure and the backrest fits perfectly balanced between the two angled side support pieces. The inclined back makes this piece also very comfortable.
The caviúna wood on both chairs has a vivid pattern and is in great condition, and the new mustard velvet upholstery looks very good on the frame.
