About the Item

Available today, with domestic shipping in the NYC metro area included, this Brazilian Modern Pair of Armchairs in Faux Black Leather, Unknown, c. 1950’s, is nothing less than gorgeous! The frame of these chairs is made with hardwood and the body of the chair is made with the original faux leather. The chair has many features of Brazilian modern armchairs as it has a curved seat, slim legs, and an angled backrest. The curved seat and angled backrest allows for maximum comfort. The backrest has two buttons, which adds to the minimalist aesthetic of Brazilian modern. The wooden legs have been refinished. The original faux leather has minor scratches and a minor torn in one of the armchairs. This is an example of the great furniture making in Brazil in the 50 and 60s decades. Despite being overshadowed by the iconic designs of Joaquim Tenreiro, Carlo Hauner, Martin Eisler, Jorge Zalszupin and Sergio Rodrigues, these craftsmen and small manufacturers still managed to produce cutting-edge pieces that embodied the "modern values" of form and materiality. Despite existing alongside their more famous counterparts, these high-quality pieces have often been overlooked or stifled by commercial interests.
