About the Item

Wonderful unique armchair made by a Danish cabinetmaker in the 1920-40s. The chair is made from solid oakwood and is upholstered in lambswool. It has slightly curved rocker rails which enables it to adjust to the person sitting in it. The chair is clearly modern with its emphasis on simple horizontal and vertical lines and surfaces but it is the playful ornamentation and the baroque details that makes this chair stand out. The design is similar to that of Axel Einar Hjort who often incorporated impressions from different historical periods and cultures into his designs. This chair is a union between traditional Danish cabinetmaking and modern ideas displaying strong proportions, simplicity in construction and beautifully detailed decorations.
