Cognac leather Esprit safari lounge Chairs by IKEA Sweden 1970s.
Ikea designed this safari Lounge chair in the 1970s. It is made of bamboo and cognac saddle leather. The design and the look and feel of this occasional chair reminded me of what someone once taught me about good sculptures, "they look great from all angles". And what is particularly important about a chair is that it is very comfortable to sit in as well. People have very different thoughts about IKEA furniture, and they are all right. Because people have other ideas about designs, quality, durability etc., the reality is that IKEA has never been more prominent or more widespread (worldwide), and some of the earlier designs will be the antiques of the future. This rare, stylish and comfortable midcentury modern chair from the early days of Swedish Ikea design is one of those future antiques that will become increasingly collectable. This particular chair is as solid and stable as the day it was made, and for its age, it is still in good condition with a nice used patina, and it will look great in many a midcentury design interior.
