About the Item

Ubald Klug created one of the icons for de Sede: DS 1025, better known as “Terrazza,” in which, depending on the arrangement, multiple sofas can be combined to form either a mountain or a valley of upholstered leather. Permeating the work by this Zurich-born ar- chitect and designer who has lived in Paris since 1966 and once also worked as a sculptor, is the con- stant search and fresh discovery of appearances. This is also how DS-800 came into being for de Sede in the 1970s: a modular seating group with consummate functionality and tremendous esthetics: a cre- ative response to our need to relax and a statement of home decor, that has now been redesigned to combine geometric motifs with ornamental references. Whether as a single-seater or a seating group of combinable elements, DS-800 acts as an inviting, protective hand. With its 360° rotatable armchair and a flexible backrest element, de Sede has developed DS-800 into a unique sculpture: a masterful revival thoroughly steeped in the philosophy of living tradition. Created as an open inviting hand, the redesign of DS-800 by Ubald Klug is a timelessly beautiful retro classic with a sculptural appearance that in- vites to inspiration and creativity. With its hidden function of a 360° rotatability, DS-800 brings momentum to every sitting position while at the same time more than doing justice to its role as an extraordinarily com- fortable armchair. Whether as a single-seater or as an endlessly combinable seating group, DS-800 can be smoothly inte- grated into the room. In addition to the armchair, stool and table elements are available as well and can be integrated into the seating groups. Available in other upholstery options: Living, Select, Touch, Kashmir, Natural, club, Coloral, Pine, Re-wool, Velour, 'male, Arco, Lila, Craft..

De Sede DS-262/11 Armchair in Black Upholstery Swivel Base by Stefan Heiliger
By De Sede, Stefan Heiliger
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Unimagined flexibility, thanks to two armchair parts. The architecture of the armchair is based on two parts, each able to swivel about its own axis. Depending on how the two chair parts are rotated relative to one another, the lower part can be used as an armrest, a footrest or practical shelf. Elegant buttoning and Fine piping on all sides – quite in keeping with incomparable De Sede quality underscore the impressive look. It’s been going on like this forever: ever since our solar system emerged billions of years ago from the so called primordial cloud, the planets – earth included – have been rotating. And thank goodness: if Mother Earth were absolutely immobile, it would be boiling hot on the side facing the sun and icy cold on the other side. As it is, however, we comfortably enjoy our life – sometimes spinning the way DS-262 does as it rises up like a lofty sculpture in the room – but that nevertheless encourages active relaxation, because the range of different sitting postures can be sampled to one’s heart’s content. Additional information: Material: Leather Category: Select - Black Type: Nappa leather, lighty pigmented Thickness: 1.2 to 1.4 mm Characteristics: Elegant in appearance, particularly durable, less sensitive to humidity, spots and light exposure thanks to an easy-care finish. Living unites practical considerations with a high aesthetic. Dimensions: 110 W x 128 D x 103 H cm Seat height: 43 cm Armrest height: 49 cm Available in other upholstery options: Living, touch, natural, coloral, craft Available in other structural version: Armchair without armrest.

De Sede DS-21 Armchair in Hazel Upholstery by Stephan Hürlemann
By Stephan Hürlemann, De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Opulent elements for modular use. The architectural structure of DS-21 is created by a metal frame that surrounds individual cushion volumes, seemingly carrying them effortlessly. The opulent elements counteract the clear lines of the frame. They function as modules that can be relocated. DS-21 comes in different upholstery combinations, with leather or fabric covers, and in three different frame widths with matte black or high-gloss chrome-plated metal legs. An armchair rounds out this family of seats. The DS-21 range is complemented by coffee tables and side tables with glass tops in different versions. This sculpture looks as if it has always stood there. A statement, essentially: I’ve been here forever. And yet: the proportions seem fresh and new, unused and inviting, Classic and modern. DS-21 is the work of Stephan Hürlemann. The Appenzell native studied architecture at ETH Zurich and was the partner of designer Hannes Wettstein, after whose death in 2008 he took over as creative director of the world-renowned Zurich studio. Hürlemann remains true to the Classic style. With the seating landscape for De Sede, he has created a floating sculpture that flirts with the lightness of being...
