About the Item

E. W. Godwin attributed Two Anglo-Japanese Aesthetic Movement ebonized armchairs. One has been professionally reupholstered with embossed gilded leather sunflower heads replicating E. W. Godwin's furniture he designed for Lord Limerick's Dromore Castle in Ireland in the early 1870s. This one has castors on the back legs. The second one retains the original Aesthetic Movement fabric and, although the fabric is highly worn in places and will require re-upholstery, it is rare to see.
