About the Item
An English near-pair of beautifully-carved wood arm chairs, with cane seats, from the turn of the 19th and 20th century. These antique armchairs from England have a light and airy feel, with open backs having a lovely horizonal position carved back-splat at center, and barreled top rail elegantly curving out in backward fashion and lower portion having a shell-carved motif. Slender arms gently slope down from the shoulders and continue to make up the front arm posts. Seats are hand-woven cane (note that they slightly differ in color, making these chairs a near-pair, and not quite matching). The chairs are raised upon squared and tapering front legs, with a sabre pair at rear. Seat depth is 18.25 inches, with a heigh of 17.25 inches from the floor. Arm height is approximately 28.25 inches. These late 19th century English armchairs, with their slender and elegant lines, will make a great intimate seating arrangement in a study, bedroom, or living area.
