About the Item

English Victorian Bamboo Armchair This is a Victorian-era bamboo armchair. Crafted from bamboo, it features a woven seat and back, curved armrests, and decorative finials atop the stiles. The back splat has an oval inlaid panel, possibly of tortoiseshell or a similar material, with a decorative cross motif. Likely produced in the late 19th century, this chair reflects the Victorian fascination with exoticism and the use of natural materials in furniture design. Bamboo furniture became popular during this period, partly due to the growing trade with East Asia. This armchair embodies the aesthetic principles of the Victorian era with its use of bamboo and its overall form. The woven elements add to the chair's rustic charm, while the inlaid panel and finials lend a touch of refinement. The dark finials seem to be carved and add a visual contrast to the light bamboo frame. Condition: The woven seat shows some wear. Fading evident throughout. General wear consistent with age and use. One finial exhibits some minor chipping. 24.75" wide x 24.13" deep x 38" high x 17.75" seat height
