About the Item

Erik Wørts - Rosewood and Cane Back Armchair Erik Worts achieved great commercial success in his design career largely through collaborations with IKEA in Sweden and FDB Mobler in Denmark. Both producers were known for their functional, affordable and modernist furniture designed for the mass market. But Worts' career was built on the fine cabinetmaking traditions of the Copenhagen Guild Exhibitions that his father - Henrik Worts - had exhibited at since its inception in 1927. In 1956 this elegant, restrained armchair was presented alongside a complimentary dining chair and table. Within the cabinetmaker furniture market it was a great success. The timber selection, joinery, quality of leather and the fine cane work exemplify the pure essence of the Cabinetmaker's Exhibitions and the higher standards they held themselves to. It featured heavily at Den Permanente's showroom at the copper-clad Vesterport building in central Copenhagen throughout the 1950s and 60s alongside the very best in Danish handcrafts. This example comes with the original black leather seat, exquisite rosewood frame and rattan cane back.
