About the Item

Rare Pair of Finn Juhl Armchairs - 1954 X Milan Triennale, Denmark Pavilion - Scandina Section An exceptionally rare and significant piece of design history: this pair of armchairs was designed by Finn Juhl and exhibited at the renowned 10th Triennale di Milano in 1954, within the Denmark Pavilion, Scandina Section. These chairs predate the France Søn production, making them an incredibly rare, early version, and highly collectible. Design and Materials These armchairs embody Finn Juhl's iconic vision-where sculptural aesthetics meet functional innovation. Crafted from solid wood, they feature elegantly curved wooden armrests seamlessly joined to the frame with visible brass fittings, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship and refined structural detailing of the period. Both the seat and backrest are supported by tensioned metal springs, a bold and innovative design solution typical of Juhl's early works. As visible in some sections, a few springs are missing-lost over time-which attests to their age and authenticity, but the chairs remain fully functional thanks to the original yellow fabric cushions, which complete the seating and offer comfort and style true to the era. Provenance and Historical Significance These armchairs are documented in the archives of the Milan Cultural Heritage Authority, confirming their official presence at the 1954 Triennale-an exhibition that marked a pivotal moment for the international recognition of Nordic design. Their rarity is not only due to their pre-production nature but also to their limited public appearances and survival rate. Functional Works of Art These pieces are not merely seating furniture-they are functional artworks, representative of Finn Juhl's poetic and organic approach to modernism. Their sculptural presence and historical pedigree make them centerpieces in any refined interior. Ideal For: High-profile collectors Exclusive interior design projects Museum acquisitions or curated exhibitions Spaces where historical, aesthetic, and emotional value are key
