About the Item

Armchair in carbon fiber, fabric, and plastic materials, produced by Meritalia, model Pagnotta, designed by Gaetano Pesce, year 2005. Unique and deeply personal, all the furniture designed by Gaetano Pesce embodies a dose of irony that distinguishes his entire design philosophy. Born in Liguria in 1939 and a student of Carlo Scarpa during his studies in Venice, Pesce has been an internationally renowned figure since the beginning of his career, not only as a designer but also as a sculptor. His acclaimed work in sculpture initially ran parallel to his career in design, later merging with it as he matured. Many of his creations in the field of furniture design reveal his desire to transcend mere interior decoration, aiming for something more, and conceiving objects that lie on the fine line between everyday functionality and art. This art is explored in its most joyful and amusing nuances, expressing an authentic "joy of form." An example of this approach is the Pagnotta armchair, designed for Meritalia in 2005. This armchair features a comfortably padded cushion, so generously stuffed that it promises infinite comfort. It reflects a taste for excess and abundance, humorously imagining a seat with fourteen carbon fiber legs, each charmingly fitted with a colorful plastic shoe. The chair's structure, thanks to noble joints, is unusually flexible and follows the movements of the sitter with an entirely novel spirit. This creates a unique sensation of use, establishing a special connection between person and object. Once placed within a contemporary home, this and other creations by Pesce can impart a subtle self-irony to the environment, a quality that has made the designer's work unique. The armchair is offered in perfect condition with its original two-tone quality fabric upholstery. Dimensions: 110 cm high, 84 cm wide, 50 cm deep.
